USGS Stream Gage at Pacific Creek near Moran, WY Vertical Reference System Work Group Work Plan • Identify common objectives, and find opportunities for cooperative projects, tasks (near-term) • Tri-lateral agency datum standardization (NOAA/USGS/USACE) • USGS Stream gage datum updates • USACE levee datum updates

Vertical Reference System Work Group Work Plan • Identify Products and Services within each agency impacted by new vertical datums (near-term) • Develop strategy to address changes that will be required to P&S (near- to mid-term) • Develop pilot projects to address agency needs (near- to mid-term) • Update existing guidelines, standards, specifications to support transition to new datums (long-term)

  4. Vertical Reference System Work Group Work Plan • Education, Outreach, Capacity Building for users (ongoing) • Brief FGCS on accomplishments (ongoing) • Identify POCs in agencies to join workgroup, perform tasks (ongoing)

VRSWG Accomplishments: May 2010-Present • Teleconferences now held quarterly • next meeting October 6, 2011 • Attendance by NGA, USGS, USACE, NPS, FCC, FEMA • Meeting notes posted on FGCS web site • Developed worksheet for each agency to identify their products/services that rely on vertical datums

Height Modernization Program Accomplishments: May 2010-Present • Monthly teleconferences to inform users – value-added with guest speakers • Education and outreach activities • Support projects designed to enhance vertical component of NSRS, present and future • NC/FEMA Floodplain mapping pilot – see Poster session • TX Geoid Slope project • Surveys: So. LA, IGLD, MS and others

Height Modernization Program Accomplishments: May 2010-Present • Discuss transition strategies with new datum project managers • Support for GRAV-D and geoid model updates • Develop National Height Modernization Plan (NHMP) • Internal Draft by end of FY2012 • Tie to NGS 10-year plan; incl. strategic plan and short-term operating plan • Emphasize coordination with federal partners • Include budget requirements/strategy
