  4. Accessing the BIBFRAME Editor • Always use the Chrome browser • Link to the BIBFRAME Editor Workspace: • http://mlvlp04.loc.gov:3000/bfe/development.html (Internal to Library of Congress staff only)

  7. Unit 3 Searching • BIBFRAME Database search interface • Searches data input via the BIBFRAME Editor and converted from MARC descriptions • Interface provides many search options • Searches can be refined by facets (format type, subject, etc.)

Search the BIBFRAME Database to answer these questions: • Is there a BIBFRAME Instance that matches the Instance I have in hand? • Is there is a BIBFRAME Work associated with the Instance I have in hand? • Do I need to create a related Work, Instance or both for the Instance I have in hand? • Are there other Works or Instances in the database related to the Instance I have in hand?

  9. Search using the BIBFRAME Editor to: • Find authorized access points for agents • Find subjects terms from LCSH, LCNAF, and LC Children’s Subject Headings • Find related Works and Instances

  10. Unit 8 Importing Descriptions from the BIBFRAME Database • Begin with a search of the BIBFRAME Database: • Did you find a Work description? • Did you find an Instance description? • Check the description to decide if you need to import a description into the BIBFRAME Editor

  11. Import a description into the BIBFRAME Editor if: • You need to add an Instance or Work related to the Instance you have in hand • You need to update an existing Work or Instance, e.g. • Update an ECIP Instance • Add subject headings to a work

  12. Unit 10 Workflows • MARC/Voyager is still the database of record • Input BIBFRAME description first, then MARC • Daily migration of data from Voyager to BF Database • Need to prevent MARC description from overwriting BF description

  13. 985 field • Add 985 field to MARC description: • 985 _ _ $a BibframePilot2 $e YYYYMMDD. • A macro for adding the 985 field will be sent to you after training

  14. Workflows • Created by BIBFRAME Pilot participants • Document workflows for each division participating • Visual and narrative workflows • Workflows will be updated and enhanced throughout the pilot

  15. Farewell to MARC • LCCN 2016010125 • Bridge to BIBFRAME • You cannot rely on MARC when working in BIBFRAME • Exercise: Map the MARC tags to BIBFRAME and RDA labels in the BIBFRAME Editor

Group Exercise: Original BIBFRAME description • Unit 6 and Unit 9 in the BIBFRAME Manual • Instructor-led • You can just observe or input along with the demonstration • Artificial environment – these resources are already in the BIBFRAME Database, but we are treating them as new descriptions • Session Two will go into more detail on the BIBFRAME Database and working with existing descriptions
