Key Terms • Cadet – a high school student enrolled In the JROTC program • Candor – impartiality, fairness; frankness, openness • Challenges – to arouse the interest of ones actions or efforts • JROTC – Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps • Mission– a specific job given to a person or group of people to accomplish • Motivate – to provide a need or purpose • Opportunities– a favorable or advantageous circumstance • Unique – being one of a kind

Introduction • This lesson will introduce you to the JROTC corps, its mission, and the leadership education training (LET) curriculum. • Your participation as a student or a cadet in this program shows your willingness to make the most of your high school education. • We are proud you elect to be a part of our unique team.

  4. Mission of Army JROTC • The mission of Army JROTC is to motivate young people to become better citizens. • JROTC teaches self-discipline, Confidence, and pride in a job well done, and it offers you challenges and opportunities to: • Sharpen your communication skills • Promote and encourage citizenship through participation in community service projects • Develop your leadership potential • Strengthen your self esteem • Improve your physical fitness • Provide incentives to drug free life • Promote your graduation from high school and develop a solid foundation for career development

  5. Unit 1: Citizenship in Action • This unit is designed to help you build and develop new skill to help you in both you school and professional life. • It will teach you about the basics of citizenship and give you a greater appreciation for America. • Gives you the history and purpose of JROTC

  6. Unit 2: Leadership theory and Application • This unit will teach you how to be a leader, what you need to know when influencing others, and what you do when your leading. • You will have opportunities to leadership lessons learned in the classroom to the drill field

  7. Unit 3: Foundation for success • You will learn about how to be self-aware, the essential skills of life, and the ability to set and achieve goals. • Content areas include communication, diversity, study skills, conflict resolution, decision making, and service learning.

  8. Unit 4: Wellness, Fitness, and First Aid • Provides training to start on total fitness, split second emergency's, handling common emergencies, and lifesaving measures. • This will help you develop both physicaly and mentally

  9. Unit 5: Geography, Map Skills and Environmental Awareness • This unit will help in developing a global perspective and awareness for the environmental issues. • You will develop orienteering skills and map reading skills

  10. Unit 6: Citizenship in History and Government • This unit introduces basic skills in civilian and political life, explore the origins, structure, rights, and responsibilities of the American constitutional government. • You will explore American history from 1776 to present day.

  11. Unit 7: Air Rifle safety and marksmanship • The final and Optional unit for the teachers. • It will focused on the elements of safety and rifle marksmanship. • Will teach you the basics of marksmenship.

  12. Conclusion • The success of the cadet is the main goal for Army JROTC. • Its aim is to help develop you into a better citizen and help you to develop into adulthood. • This class will teach you skill you need to succeed in life including – qualities such a courage, candor, competence, commitment, confidence, and character.
