  1. WHAT IS TRUST? “Firm reliance on the integrity, ability, or character of a person or thing. (b) Custody; care. (c) The condition and resulting obligation of having confidence placed in one: violated a public trust. (d) One in which confidence is placed.” Many wanted to trust Jesus – John 2:23-25

  2. NEED TO SEE WHERE WE REALLY PLACE OUR TRUST • Some have found “bargains” that will fail in the day of testing – Jeremiah 2:13; 14:3 • Our God is worthy of our trust- Psalm 36:7 • King of Assyria boldly said this – 2 Kings 19:10-12; 19:35-37 • Notice where Sennacherib died! - 2 Chronicles 32:20,21

  3. WE ARE BLESSED IF WE CAN BUILD SUCH A TRUST • We will have a shield that nothing can break down – 2 Samuel 22:3,4,31 • Peter knew what real trust in the Lord meant – Mark 10:28-31 • If you trust in the Lord that trust will be tested- Romans 5:3-5 • It is “easier” to the worldly to talk about trusting God and in reality, trust something else that does not test you

  4. OUR GOD WILL TELL YOU THE TRUTH & MOVE YOU TO MAKE CHANGES • Many seek convenient time – Acts 24:25,26 • Where did Felix place his trust? • Where do we place out trust? • Money seems to provide security – Psalm 49:6-9; Mark 10:24,25 • Military power & skill – Psalm 20:7,8; 44:6,7 • Powerful political/business leaders – Psalm 146:3,4 • Ones own heart – Proverbs 28:26

  5. WHERE YOU PLACE YOUR TRUST WILL ALSO AFFECT YOUR TRUSTWORTHINESS • Many placed trust in idols – Psalm 135:13-18 • Could an idol really help them? • The people became untrustworthy! • Am I a trustworthy person? • Where do I place my trust? – Proverbs 3:5; 11:28 • We become like the things we trust.

  6. TRUSTING GOD WILL MAKE US WILLLING SERVANTS OF OTHERS • If we trust in Jesus we will want the mind of Christ – Philippians 2:1-5 • Trusting in another take time, knowledge & interaction • When you come to Jesus He will expose your heart • Consider Timothy – Philippians 2:19-22

  7. TRUSTWORTHY PEOPLE BECOME CONCERNED TO KNOW OTHERS! • Make changes in order to help others – 1 Corinthians 9:19-23 • God’s love will bring a consistent attitude & action towards others- 1 Corinthians 13:4-6 • We are patient and kind. • We do not seek to be seen and praised. • We want good and not evil for others. • We are optimistic!

  8. SOME COMMON TRUST-BUSTERS • Selling out because of greater “loyalty” – Psalm 41:9 • Love of gossip & tale bearing – James 3:5 • Those who do this will find themselves without those they can trust – Proverbs 28:25 • Uncontrolled anger & bitterness- 1 John 3:15 • Hard to trust God with your vengeance- Romans 12:19; Hebrews 12:15 • We need to be on guard against this spirit

  9. WE CANNOT DO THE WORK OF THE LORD WITHOUT BEING TRUSTWORTHY • The spread of the gospel & edification of Christians requires the opening of others hearts to us • We must fight to keep that kind of spirit here – Philippians 1:27,28 “let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ”…. “stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel”
