  3. Mushers • All mushers have 16 dogs to start out with • My musher is Sonny Linder • His bib number is 70 • He 64 years old • He was born in Michigan on Christmas Eve • He began mushing in the early 70s

  4. Dogs There are 16 dogs per team The dogs have to wear booties which is recommended by their vets The dogs are huskies

  5. Routes There are 25 checkpoints in the northern route There are 26 checkpoints in the southern route The race starts in Anchorage and ends in Nome

  6. Awards One of the awards is the Spirit of Alaska and is given to Sonny Linder The Yukon Award is given to Jeff King The Red Lantern Award is to Marcelle Fressineau
