    3. Dr. P is unable to distinguish objects, despite the fact that his eyes are perfectly normal Visual perception is lost visual agnosia Suspected tumor or degenerative process in the brain Which part? Frontal, temporal, parietal, or occipital lobe? The Man Who Mistook his Wife for a Hat

Phantom Limbs A man loses his arm in a car accident, but feels as though the limb is still present The doctor tries to figure out why this happens When touches the mans face with a Q-tip, the man feels sensations in his phantom limb What is happening? Does this case provide evidence for plasticity in the brain?

The Unbearable Likeness of Being A 30-year old man gets into a car accident and hits his head against a windshield Coma for 3 weeks Capgras syndrome Thinks his parents are imposters, even though he admits that they look exactly like them Whats wrong with him? Face centers of temporal lobe allow us to recognize faces These centers are intimately connected with emotional centers of the brain (aka limbic system) If these connections are destroyed or interrupted, faces may be recognized but have no emotional significance This results in familiar people being perceived as imposters
