  3. Key Words from v.5 • “for this reason,” ties it together… • “apply all diligence,” I.e., earnestness, zeal, care, & carefulness • “supply,” epichoregeo, to supply fully, or abundantly Be earnest and careful to fully supply all of the following needs.

  4. Supply moral excellence • W.E.Thayer- moral goodness, virtuous thought, feeling and action • Common Usage- courage, vigor, energy in overcoming • Scholars today- …an active word, active energy and courage in exercising one’s faith

  5. Supply knowledge • Gk. gnosis - the acquisition of information with accompanying discernment • Moral decisions of courage and energy should be based upon facts, not feelings, beliefs, or traditions.

  6. 1 Corinthians 8:1; 13:2 • Knowledge makes arrogant, but love edifies. • If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.

  7. Supply self-control • One who masters desires and passions, especially sensual appetites Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.

  8. Supply perseverance • Patience, abiding after others have left, not fleeing or giving up • Another “active” word… not giving up under despondency, suffering, or cowardice

  9. Supply godliness • A Godward attitude leading one to do what is pleasing to Him

  10. Supply brotherly kindness • Gk. philadelphia - a love of the brethren, the church, Christians 1 John 3:14a, 18 We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brethren. Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth.

  11. Supply love • Gk. agape - interest in the welfare and well-being of others, whether deserved or not It is a decision, not a feeling.

  12. What will be the Result of Fully Supplying these things? • If they’re “yours,” huparcho, one’s own property, and plenazo, super-abounding ?!? • Render you not idle, lazy, or fruitless • Not blind (short sighted, seeing only close) • Not forgetful, remembering commitment, change purification from sin • Makes certain of His calling and choosing • Entrance into kingdom abundantly supplied
