  1. Orientation to GDP Succeeding in an online keyboarding course: Are you a self-starter who can read and follow instructions? Are you determined to submit only the very best quality of work to your instructor? Are you disciplined enough to follow a prescribed schedule and hand in your assignments on time? Are you determined to read your announcements in TalonNet on a continuous and frequent schedule?

  2. Orientation to GDP Do you have the technical skills to succeed? Can you navigate the Web? Can you download files to your computer? Can you install GDP software on your computer? Can you send and receive e-mails and open and read attachments to e-mails from your instructor? Can you manage files: find, delete, rename, open, print?

  3. Orientation to GDP Required Hardware PC with a Pentium II or higher CPU. 16 MB RAM for Windows 95 and 98 systems; 32 MB RAM for Windows NT, ME, and 2000 systems; 128 MB RAM for Windows XP. Hard disk drive with 110 MB of free space. CD-ROM drive (8X or faster). Color monitor that supports 800 x 600 high color or true color resolution. High-density 3.5” floppy disk drive. Standard audio card compatible with MS Windows.

  4. Orientation to GDP Required Software Microsoft Windows 95, 98, NT, ME, 2000, or XP. Internet Browser—either Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher or Netscape Navigator 4.7 or higher. Microsoft Word 2000, 2002, or 2003 for document processing. GDP/10 keyboarding software—comes with your book. An updated virus software program.

  7. Orientation to GDP Stay on Schedule Work is due according to the Calendar on TalonNet. Late work will not be accepted. Check your e-mail, class announcements, and job annotations BEFORE you begin working each day.

  8. Orientation to GDP Type your lessons in the program. Proofread your work. Correct any errors. Save your work. Check your portfolio. Export and/or upload your work. Go to textbook and using MS Word type assigned work to be submitted using the DropBox in TalonNet.

  9. Orientation to GDP Typing Technique You must use the correct fingers on all the keys and be able to type by touch (without looking) to pass keyboarding. You DO NOT need to type fast or be concerned with a few errors when technique is being evaluated. You DO need to type with acceptable technique on all areas indicated on the Keyboarding Technique form.

  11. Orientation to GDP Timed Writings You will take 5-minute timed writings throughout the course as they appear in the lessons you complete. You need 3 best timed writings to qualify within a designated grade category. The best 3 timed writings will be part of your final grade.
