  1. October 2014 Bob Knoedler President, SERBCA Board of Directors Fall Update - 2014 SOUTHEAST CHAPTER

  2. Chapter Activities SOUTHEAST CHAPTER Spring Webinar – April 10th • Entitled “ASHRAE Stnd. 202-2013 - Owner’s Responsibilities and Expectations”, it was presented by H. Jay Enck, CxAP, HBDP, CPMP • It discussed how the new Standard establishes the mandatory role of the Owner in defining Cx requirements and developing the OPR 4th Annual Joint Technical Summit with 7x24 Exchange – June 19th • Held at the Ballantyne Hotel in Charlotte, it was a very successful event; sold out with a waiting list for attendees • Topic: Designed for the End Use – Relating long term operations and maintenance into the OPR Annual Meeting – December 4th – Save the Date • To be held at UNC Charlotte with presentation by Robert Cox

  3. 22nd Annual NCBC National Conference on Building Commissioning • Held May 19th – 21st, 2014 in Hartford, CT • Gathered various Cx Providers, as well as leaders in commercial, institutional and governmental building and energy-related industries • Included multiple tracks with presentations addressing cost-effective Cx processes, optimizing building performance, reducing energy use, and improving indoor air quality, occupant comfort, and productivity • Included a Town Hall forum on the final afternoon, allowing attendees to voice their concerns regarding the Cx industry and BCA’s priorities NCBC – 2015 – Save the Date • May 18th – 20th in St. Louis, Missouri – Organized by Central Chapter

  4. BCA Priorities / Goals • Working with BCCB to gain accreditation for the CCP certification • Supporting DOE / NIBS CWCC and the NIBS Cx Leadership Council • Update ‘Best Practices’ Documents • Update Commissioning Handbook • Develop and expand training through Webinars, NCBC, and on site seminars for both EBCx and NCx • Establishing the BCA Scholarship Foundation • Exploring international growth opportunities

  5. Two Challenges • Accreditation • DOE / NIBS Commercial Workforce Credentialing Council (CWCC) • Build workforce with minimum adopted level of qualifications; establishing certification criteria (possibly at multiple levels) • Challenge: maintain Cx as a professional service, not a commodity. Align various organizations’ certifications with DOE adopted level 2. Codes and Standards • ICC / IECC / IGCC – through codification of commissioning, various terms are used (special inspector, design professional, Cx provider, approved agency) and different responsibilities are assigned (Cx approval, acceptance of tests, certification of project). • Challenge: work to standardize terminology and qualifications for AHJ; do not accept additional liability (e.g. compliance with codes)

  6. Advocacy Membership in BCA / SERBCA is Important • The practice of Commissioning is a Professional Service – Cx Providers should be selected through a Qualifications-Based Process • Is it right and does it benefit the Cx Provider? • Is it right and does it benefit the Owner?

  7. October 2014 Rod Rabold Vice President, SERBCA Board of Directors Commissioning Coordinator - UNC Chapel Hill BAS Control Strategies for Achieving Energy Savings in Buildings SOUTHEAST CHAPTER
