  1. Helpful Information I Hope  Honors Biology

  2. 50% Tests 30% Science Fair 20% Labs Mrs R’s Grading Rubric

  3. It was a good first try for most of you now we have to tweak our papers Science Fair Tips

  4. Formatting Pay special attention to format. You have detailed instructions with each SRP. Research paper formatting is done for you if you use the electronic template. Just type in your info

  5. Organization of Lit review First paragraph: What is the big picture/ real world app of your project, state your problem clearly and then state your hypothesis. You must predict the outcome of your experiment 2,3,4,etc paragraphs contain supporting data and other research that has been done Last paragraph states your hypothesis and defends it using references and specifies DV,IV, Control, and Constants

  6. Example See handout

  7. References/Bib Many of you used the same kind of reference over and over again. 5 different books on insects is not 5 refs only 1 Many of your references were irrelevant to your project You need to use our library databases to get current real science

  8. Quality of Refs None of your projects are new to the world. Other people have done similar projects. For instance if you are looking at the effect of herbicides on earthworms, you may find that some one used Round Up in their experiment and you are using GlyPhosphate . You will use that one as a ref

  9. Citation Format If you are using a library database remember that you are accessing an online copy of a paper document. You need to cite it as a paper document and then add Accessed through Ebsco on and the date Mith, A. (2010) Butterfly Diversity in a Clear Cut Woodland. Conservation Biology 45(9): 54-67. Accessed through Ebsco on Sept. 1, 2010
