  1. Student Academic Planning Tool Goal: Gather a workgroup to assess the technology landscape with regard to student academic planning, including transfer, and to make recommendations. Background:Several institutions are testing academic planning software that is not integrated to ISRS. Benefits to students: Students would be able to plan their plan their academic path to graduation.

  2. Curriculum Management Goal: Identify an approach for systemwide web-based workflow to: • integrate program, course & catalog information, • manage course & program approval; reduce burden, and • interface with Program Navigator & ISRS Background: A few institutions use Catalog and Curriculum Navigator. Related products and home-grown solutions also exist. Program Navigator integrates with ISRS. Most institutions use manual methods. Benefits to students: Curriculum updates are accurately reflected in student records and Web & print media.

  3. Integrate Lumens to ISRS Goal: Determine a systematic approach to the integration of data between Lumens (CECT online registration system) and ISRS which eliminates double entry of student information; provides consistent systemwide metrics; and consistency of data entry processes. Background: Lumens is being utilized by approximately 88% of colleges and universities with colleges and universities adopting and implementing different processes to maintain student and financial information between Lumens and ISRS. Benefits to students: The adoption of Lumens has created a user-friendly experience not only for students but also for employers/organizations who want to register for non-credit courses/training. There are additional enhancements that could benefit students and employers but most CECT departments are not able to adopt because of the significant time and resources dedicated to double entry.

  4. Analytics Goal: To form an analytics workgroup to assess the D2L Analytics system and implement this system if this system is determined to meet institutional needs. Background: Institutions are increasingly asking for more data from our D2L system for a wide range of planning and learning needs. Currently there is no streamlined way data to be extracted or reports generated from our D2L system. D2L Analytics is expected to meet many of our D2L analytics needs. Benefits to Students: Students will benefit from faculty and institutions being able to be more responsive to course and program needs.

  5. Next Generation Library Discovery Goal: To assess a next generation of library search system called a Discovery layer. This system will allow students and faculty to use a single search interface to search across the digital and print resources that the library already has. Background: Currently students and faculty have a huge number of high quality digital and print research resources available to them through the library system, the problem is that these resources are accessed through any number of different search interfaces. This causes confusion in the research process. Benefits to Students: Students will have a much more seamless search and discovery system that will encourage a higher level of academic attainment and provide a less frustrating search experience.

  6. Educational Intent and Address Update Goal: To improve the accuracy of educational intent and student address information through mandatory checks (optional by institution) on e-services every six months. Background: Currently there is no reminder for students to check their educational intent. Students routinely change their educational intent and don’t always change their major on e-services. Benefits to students: Improved accuracy in educational intent could lead to improved advising and better transfer information.

  7. E-learning Student Self-Assessment Goal: To gather a group to identify a best practice of eLearning student self assessment. The best practice could be tied as a requirement for registration of online courses. Background: Colleges and universities use a variety of methods to encourage students to self-assess preparedness for online courses. Benefits to students: Required self-assessment for online courses will improve student success.

  8. STAR ID full implementation Goal: To gather a workgroup to identify the key barriers to fully implementing STAR ID at all institutions Background: Some colleges have implemented STAR ID but gaps remain. Several institutions are unable to implement STAR ID without enhancements. Benefits to students: STAR ID provides benefits to students by being able to use the same id and pin number for many systems (e-services, D2L, etc) and at any MnSCU university or college they attend.

  9. DARS what if scenarios Goal: To enable students to do what if scenario planning within DARS. Students would be able to see how their courses fit within other majors (including MnTC) without changing their major. Background: Currently students are able to run a DARS report only against their official major. Benefits to students: Students would benefit from improved planning.

  10. Automated Course Scheduling Goal: To create an automated course scheduling process that enables batch data to be loaded into ISRS. Background: Anoka Ramsey CC has developed a web application for course scheduling that allows faculty and deans to build schedules based on course and curriculum data from ISRS. The outcome of this process is a fully‐built term course schedule stored in a database. The fields stored in this database map to fields in ISRS. However, because MnSCU does not currently provide a means to bulk‐load course term data into ISRS, all of the data has to be manually transferred from the local database into ISRS. Benefits to students: Students would benefit from a schedule that is available sooner and is more accurate. Deans and faculty members also benefit from a more efficient and accurate process.

  11. GIS Capacity Goal: To support enrollment management and program planning, assess strategies and an associated technology platform to display and analyze geographic origins and migration of students by institution and program. Background:The capacity made available by geographic information systems (GIS) software has not been fully utilized at the system or institutional level. Many of the strategic enrollment and academic program decisions now being considered by individual institutions and the system would benefit from geographic representations of student attendance patterns, program markets, and migration of graduates. ESRI as well as other GIS providers have software available to provide a user-friendly interface for displaying and analyzing geographic student data that could be explored and supported on a system-wide basis. Benefits to students: Identification of student enrollment patterns and program markets that lead to improved system and institutional planning.
