  24. CONSIDERATIONS 1. SOLDIER MUST CARRY OUT ORDER UNTIL ACCOMMODATION IS APPROVED. 2. THE COMMITTEE FOR THE REVIEW OF RELIGIOUS ACCOMMODATION IN THE ARMY IS ADVISORY; COMMANDER DECIDES. 3. ACCOMMODATION MAY VARY WITH COMMANDER. 4. AR 600-20 IS NOT A PUNITIVE REGULATION. 5. THE REQUEST TRIGGERS THE SYSTEM.

  29. WHO COMMITS SUICIDE? • Women attempt suicide more than men • Men actually kill themselves more often • More common with age, but teenage rate is growing • Whites attempt more than blacks

  30. PRIMARY SIGNS FEELINGS OF: -Hopelessness -Helplessness -Worthlessness “The HHW Syndrome”

  31. CAUSES OF THE HHW SYNDROME • Worry About Job or School Performance • Loss of Emotional Support System • Loss of Social or Financial Status As a LEADER, be responsible and be on the lookout for these issues with your soldiers.

  32. CAUSES OF THE HHW SYNDROME(Continued) • Drug or alcohol Abuse • Loss of Job • Debt/ Low Income • Downward Mobility and Shame: DUI, Arrest for Molestation of a Minor, etc.

  37. Organizing business and personal matters. Giving away possessions. Composing a suicide note. Buying a gun. Planning one’s own funeral. Obsession with death. A sudden lift in spirits. BEHAVIORAL WARNINGS
