THE CHALLENGE FOR CUMBRIA! • To increase participation in sport and physical activity from 33% of the NW population active in 2003 to 50% in 2020 • Widen access and reduce inequality in participation • The population of Cumbria is around 488,500 (source: Cumbria County Council population figures) • Based on 33% of Cumbria’s population 161,200 are currently active • By 2020 another 83,050 need to be active • That means a yearly increase of 4,880 • A weekly increase of 94 • 16 new participants per Local Authority area each week until 2020
