FBG: Quasi-Enterprises programme September 1998: CLiC joins the Quasi-Enterprises programme by FBG FBG, as the centre of Technology Transfer within the UB, assesses CLiC in its beginning: • Business plan • Seeking professionals (e.g. Marketing and commercial manager) • Assessment about the development of the business activity • Management and Marketing courses for entrepreneurs

  8. 2. UB: Parc Científic de Barcelona September 1998: CLiC is located at the PCB (UB) PCB is a structure of public and private research groups created by UB. Advantages: • Contact with other groups • Prestige and confidence • Infrastructure: telecommunications, common services, ...

  9. 3. CIDEM: Xarxa IT January 2000: CLiC joins the Xarxa IT by the Catalan government Xarxa IT is a network of technological innovation centres focused on the improvement of Technology Transfer. Several kinds of aids, in our case: • 60.000 euros per year (2000-2001-2002) to strenghten the figures of Marketing manager and Computers senior. Final purpose: • Either to consolidate the Technology Transfer of the research group, • or to make the group become a spin-off.

  10. 4. CIDEM: Technological Trampoline Programme May 2001: Creation of Thera taking part in the Technological Trampoline Programme promoted by the Catalan government The Technological Trampoline Programme consists of an economic aid to create a company. In our case: • Total amount: 18.000 euros

  12. Difficulties (1) Institutional difficulties: • Lack of a tradition in this kind of activity in the university sector. • No legislation. • Laws are opposite to the involvement of professors in business activities related to their subject field.

  13. Difficulties (2) Institutional difficulties: • Lack of a clear and strong university policy about the activity of Technology Transfer university-company. • Lack of facilities to the double figure professor-manager.

  14. Difficulties (3) Human resources difficulties: • Difficulties on the professionalization of the team, coming from a university group. • Duplicity of activities for the managers of the group. • Volunteer attitudes. • Lack of definition on the responsibilities.

  15. Difficulties (4) Internal organization: 2 years to work out an internal structure Nowadays professional profiles: • Management-administration • Marketing-commercial • Project responsible • Head of project • Quality control • Staff responsible

  18. Results (2) CLiC + Thera: Innovation and solutions Development and commercialization of solutions raised by companies of the Information Society. INNOVATION Thera SOCIETY MARKET Centre of research, innovation and training of new professionals on Linguistic Technology. CLiC SOLUTIONS
