  3. Purpose of Tonight • To review curriculum, policies, and expectations for 6th grade. • There are no pre-scheduled parent conferences. • Please contact me if you would like to schedule a conference.

  4. Syllabus • Please feel free to take a syllabus.

  5. Hello & Welcome! • Your child is enrolled in my Language & Literature and Individuals & Societies classes this year. • CA State Content Standards & Common Core implementation. • Active learning & increased student involvement (i.e. projects, reenactments, research, etc.)

  6. Helping Your Child Succeed • Make sure your child comes to school prepared. • Parent-Teacher collaboration • Monitor child’s grades – Powerschool • Check homework assignments using elsegundomiddleschool.org & your child’s binder reminder. • Check for homework completion & enforce schoolwork as a priority.

  7. Supplies • 1 inch binder for technology with subject dividers • 1 binder for all core subject with clearly labeled dividers • Flashdrive • 2 standard spiral notebooks • Lined paper • Pencils • Red & green pens • Blue or black pens • Colored pencils • Scissors • Silent reading book • Binder reminder

  8. Positive Reinforcement & Discipline • Verbal praise, raffle tickets & treasure chest • Happy notes & happy calls home • Two verbal warnings • Name recorded in classroom log • Removal from classroom • Detention • 3 or more tardies = detention • Every 3rd no homework = detention • Failure to report to detention = Saturday School

  13. 2013-14 GRANT $1,000,000 To ensure these programs are funded for this year, the ask per student is $25 a month = $300 If we surpass $1Mil. we can fund additional programs! For example:Expand Foreign Language, HS Counselor, Grade Level Technical Curriculum Coordinator

  14. PTSA Membership • Families who have NOT signed up for PTSA and are interested in joining, please find membership envelopes on the table by the printer. The membership fee is $10.
