  10. Case 1: Mobile Phones & Financial Incentives to Increase TB Case Detection • Region: Asia-Pacific • Country: Pakistan • Partners:  Stop TB Partnership TB REACH Initiative; Indus Hospital Karachi; • Issues:  • Increase in incidences of TB but it remained undetected & thus it became difficult for physicians to treat the patients. • Innovative digital solution: • The Indus Hospital in Karachi started a new programme in January 2011 that uses mobile phone technology and financial incentives to track down people with TB. • Family doctors and community health workers report cases using their mobile phones and receive a text message which tells them how many cases they have helped to detect. • This data is used to calculate the incentives earned by each person which is then transferred via mobile banking facilities. Case 2: SMS to Reach Remote Health Workers • Region: Africa & Middle East • Country: Kenya • Partners: Capacity Kenya; • Issues:  • Capacity Kenya had to manage and communicate with over 700 health workers hired under a rapid hiring plan and deployed to remote villages. • Communication needs such as submission of timesheets, payroll-related queries etc had to be done at faster speed, lesser cost & reliable data collection. • Innovative digital Solution: • Based on a needs assessments a bulk text messaging system has been piloted, helping to streamline and speed up communication. Improvements include regular, more cost effective communication with staff via SMS, resulting in higher compliance rates in timesheet submission and improved response rates from staff. Shuchita Jain, SIESCOMS

  12. Case 3 : Remote consultation between Sweden & Spain • Region: Europe • Country: Sweden & Spain • Partners: Sollefteå and Borås • Issues:  • Sollefteå& BoråsHospital Sweden suffered from the shortage of qualified radiologist which led to longer treatment time & longer wait time for patient & overall high economic cost • Innovative digital solution: • Sollefteå & Borås Hospital Sweden established a cross border collaboarative project with Telemedicine Clinic (TMC) in Barcelona, spain for analysis, advice and opinions.
