  1. The Effects of Using Manipulatives in Middle School Mathematics Tutoring By Rachael Sanders Department of teacher education College of Education Mentor teacher Dr. Jeanne Tunks Department of teacher education College of education

  2. Purpose of Research This research was conducted during my PDS I internship. The purpose of this research was to evaluate the effect of using a different approach to teaching math.

  3. Testing Pre-tested 50 students on gotolearn.com diagnostic test. Randomly selected 18 to be divided into three equal groups to do tutoring using manipulatives.

  4. Tutoring Spent 6 weeks tutoring groups of three students once a week. Every tutoring session was based on the use of manipulatives https://www.livetext.com/doc/3885006

  5. Post Testing We post-tested all of the 50 students again. We found an increase in the scores of those students who received tutoring. https://www.livetext.com/doc/3885006

  6. Results I found that students in middle school seem to benefit greatly from the use of manipulatives in mathematics. They were able to concentrate more and they seemed to grasp the concepts quicker.
