  4. A research paper is an investigative, written report based upon information compiled from a variety of resources.

  5. Some possible resources for gathering information include both print and nonprint: Encyclopedias Dictionaries Reference books Atlases Almanacs Journals Magazines Newspapers Internet Subscription Services (Alabama Virtual Library)

  6. You will learn valuable research skills: • Find information and evaluate it for quality. • Use the Alabama Virtual Library (AVL). • Write source cards. • Summarize information. • Avoid plagiarism. • Write note cards. • Write an outline. • Make in-text citations. • Compile a Works Cited page.

  7. You will find that doing research requires a logical process:

  11. You will learn to prepare an outline!
