  1. Unusual ECG Patterns of the Heart By: Natalie Kennedy

  2. What is an ECG? • It stands for electrocardiogram • It is an instrument that measures electrical readings of the heart • It traces cardiac cycles of the heart in segments and waves

  3. Importance of an ECG • Doctors have the ability to see exactly when electrical signals that are sent from the heart • Detects abnormal heart contractions • Can lead to correct diagnostic of specific heart trouble

  4. ECG Readings • P wave- atrial depolarization form the SA node in the atrium • QRS Complex- ventricular depolarization and a simultaneous atrial repolarization • T wave ventricular repolarization

  5. Conclusions of ECG Readings Healthy individuals are represented by normal ECG readings. There are several reasons one may have abnormal readings: • abnormal heart rhythms • hypertrophy of the heart • low blood flow to the heart • high blood pressure • damage to the heart due to lack of oxygen

  6. What does it look like? Normal ECG reading Abnormal ECG reading
