RCHDI: Definition • The Regional Core Health Data Initiative was launched in 1995. • Core Health Data is a minimum set of data and indicators required to characterize the health situation in a country, a geographic area or specific health problems. • The set involves 117 core indicators, disaggregated into 401 basic data/country • This minimum common set of data allows the monitoring of specific health goals and public health programs in the Member States and WHO/PAHO Mandates for the Region of the Americas. • Special emphasis given to respond to monitoring of the Millennium Development Goals Dr. Carlos Castillo-Salgado. Goals of the Core Health Data/Country Profile Initiative • To orient strategic policy direction. • To facilitate priority setting for action in the health sector. • To improve the evaluation and adjusting technical cooperation in each of the countries and key public health programs. • To assist the countries in devising investment strategies and special programs for health policy or health services development. • To facilitate the mobilization of financial resources. • To orient research priorities. • To periodically produce and distribute validated reports on health trends in each country and the Region as a whole.
