  2. What is Title 1 • A Federal Program through NCLB • Funding to provide supplemental instruction for students who qualify • Focusing on improving mathematics and language arts literacy skills

  3. Title 1 in SHSD • 2012-2013 is the first year of this funding • Chose to target funds at Bernardsville Middle School • Students were identified based on scores on the Grade 4-7 NJASK, I and RS, and teacher recommendation

  4. Summer Program • Creating a Summer Support program opportunity for our students • Taught by expert teachers in math and literacy • In July 2013 • Monday-Thursday • Two-Four Weeks • Students choose to attend, if interested and available • Letter with Details in March

  5. The Goal for the Summer Program • Creative, Engaging, and Supportive • Motivate students to learn • Based on student interest • Field Trips • Small workshop classes • Connecting math and literacy • Doing math and writing about experiences • Food and fun!

  6. Curriculum • Research Based • Teachers College Writers and Readers Workshop Model • Discovery Math Model with games as the basis for learning

  7. Parent Input • Times? • Topics? • Field Trips? • More Ideas? • Parent Advisory Committee

  8. School- Student- Parent Compact • Review Compact and make suggestions • Will receive final compact to sign
