  2. How do you feel about working with Preschoolers? What would you enjoy about it? How would it benefit the children? What would the challenges be?

Goals of Preschooler Activities • Learn about and enjoy eating foods. • Learn how to prepare foods. • Develop listening and comprehension skills. • Introduce to different types of literature. • Learn the importance of physical activity. • Enjoy physical activity. • Develop family understanding of the division of responsibility in feeding. • Develop movement skills, hand-eye coordination, etc.

  4. Preschoolers are Fun! • They love to learn about things. • They want to discover the world around them. • They are full of energy.

  5. More about preschoolers • Short attention spans • Change activities often • May be uncomfortable joining in • Keep things low key • Don’t force them to participate • Move around a lot • Don’t expect them to sit perfectly still • Expect them to stay in their own space

  6. Getting Started • Introduce yourself. • Learn the names of the kids. Use name tags if you need to. • Be upbeat, speak enthusiastically, smile a lot • Set rules

  7. Setting Some Simple Rules • Stay in your space. • Listen to who is talking. • Play safely. • Take turns.

  8. Dealing with Misbehavior • Tell them the behavior is not allowed. • If a child continues to misbehave, he should sit out for a few minutes. • Unacceptable behaviors such as purposely hurting another child should not be tolerated. The child should be removed from the group.

  9. Giving Praise • Acknowledge when children are doing well rather than telling them when they are not. • Give praise often • Be specific. • Say their name and what they are doing that you like.

  10. Encouraging Participation • Participate in the activities with the children • Encourage parents to participate • Change activities when children seem bored • Smile and be enthusiastic
