William Wordsworth • William Wordsworth was born on April 7th, 1770 in Cumberland, England. • William was the second of five children. • William’s mother died in 1778 when he was eight years old. Five years later in 1783, his father died. • After their father's death, the Wordsworth children were left under the guardianship of their uncles.

William Wordsworth • It took him many years, and much writing, to recover from the death of his parents and his separation from his siblings. • Many consider him the most important English Romantic poet. • Wrote “An Evening Walk” which was one of his first published poetry. • He also wrote one of the most famous poems in English Literature: “Ode: Intimations of Immortality.”

The French Revolution • William devoted his considerable passion and persuasive power to convincing others of the rightness. • He embraced the ideals of liberty and equality espoused by the French Revolution. • He achieved remarkable intellectual and gained a wide following throughout Europe, particularly in Germany, Prussia, England, and to a lesser extent France.

  5. An Evening Walk • 1793 Wordsworth's first published poetry “An Evening Walk.” • It reveals much about the poet's development growth and changing artistic principles.

  6. Intimations of Immortality • It deals with the subjects of childhood and the memory of childhood in the mind of the adult in particular. • A Childhood's lost connection with nature, which can be preserved only in memory, and how after years it fades away.

  7. William Wordsworth • By the time he got married, the revolutionary of his youth had been tempered. • He condemned French imperialism in the period after the Revolution. • His English nationalism became more pronounced. • 1850 he died at the age of 80 at Rydal Mount, Ambleside in England.

  8. Rydal Mount, Ambleside • Location – Cumbria, the north-west of England. • The Wordsworth Family moved into Rydal Mount in 1813. • They rented the house continually for 46 years till 1859.
