Sector Priorities • Integration of Traditional Practictioners, in the National Health System to improve the Primary Health Care at comunity level • To develop Research in Traditional Medicine • To encourage cultivation and conservation of medicinal plants • To Strenght the relationship between the twoo medicines • To Improve institutional capacity

  3. Priority I: Integration of TH in Primary Health Care Activities • Elaboration of training manuals and materials includind audio-visuals; • Training TH in Primary health care. Almost 17.000 TPM´s trained. • Elaboration and distribution patient referals sheets and we receive montly reports from TH. • Acquisition and distribution of T-Shirts, Hats, Bicycles, bags, and lanterns as an incentives for TH.

  4. TRAINING OF HEALTH PROFESSIONALS IN TCM Two courses were held in Maputo, 72 participants from all provinces attended. The moduls included techniques such as: Cupping therapy, Moxibustion, Scraping and Tuina Massages. It was oriented by experts from China, IMT Portugal and Mozambique. TOTAL PATIENTS OBSERVED: 43,179 (from August 2016 to March 2017).

In Nampula province the TH sent 485 TB suspected patients and 169 were BK+ and 17 of them were doing treatment under TH direct observation at community level. • In Niassa province, in 2015, 34 patients were doing first line TB treatment under TH direct observation at community level and 60% of patients in helath unity being treaed were sent by healers.   6. Aquisition and distribution materials as an incentives for TH . Patients referred: 2015: 129.759 2016: 1.345. 402 .TB suspect patient referred: 2015: 2.524 2016: 9. 537 .Condom Distribution 2015: 290.775 2016: 430.672

Alternative Medicine • Trdaitional Medicine doctors working in the government hospitals • Privite hospital offering TCM and other complementary Medicine (Ayurveda and Homeopathy, etc..) • Pharmacies selling traditional products as a food supplemets • Local Prodution of nutricional suplements by privat sectors.

  8. Trainings in manufacturing and conservation local medicinal products • Traditional Healers and market local vendors of medicinal plants, have been trained in good manufacturing medicinal remedies and in-situ conservation of medicinal resources • We are producting manuals and brochures about correct uses and conservation of medicnal plants in the field and in the markets

  11. Botanical identificaction • Technicians of Eduardo Mondlane university, Department of Biology, helping in the species identification, for plates preparation. In Niassa, 10 hectares, 975 nurseries of medicinal species were placed. 164 plates of identification were placed. In Cabo Delgado, 10 hectares, 3,002 nurseries of medicinal plants. 144 plates of identification were placed.

  14. Our Herbarium • Herbarium in the IMT : • Documentation • Studies • Students Dissertations (teses for university graduation, masters, PhDs and other academic works) • Hexibitions on traditional medicine and scientifical events.

Research • Nutritional Suplements– Phytoquimical and toxicology studies (Moringa), • Medicinal Plantas with antihelmintic activity • Medicinal Plantas with repelent activity • Conservation of the species who have been seled in the markets • Medicinal Plantas with oxitocic activity • Medicinal Plantas with anti-astmatic activity • Medicinal Plantas with anti-epiléptico activity • Medicinal plants used for skin problems and creams

Challenges • Built capacity in IMT for better quality of the activities; • increase the extent of the forests areas with medicinal plants (in-situ and ex-situ conservation); • create cultivation areas for commercialization in order to obtain funds for their sustainable activities including purchase of agricultural equipment; • Include traditional medicine in the curricula of health training institutes • Develop regulations on traditional and alternative medicine In Mozambique; • Increase our international cooperation with the countries with good manufacturing products and lab experiences. • Improve our data base for herbarium informatization and plants registration in Mozambique. • Increase the number os TPM´s and Health professional trained.
