  5. Pride Pact Now that we have gotten to know each other a little bit, we will create a social contract, called the Pride Pact, that will help us build a positive, productive learning community.

Pride Pact Think back to the four questions you answered in your homeroom class: • How do you want the teacher to treat you? • How do you want to treat your classmates and your teacher? • How do you want your classmates to treat you? • How should we treat each other when there is a conflict? With these questions in mind, list 3 things you think will help create a positive learning environment for you.

  7. Pride Pact • Now, compare your list with a partner. Narrow the combined list to 5 that you both can agree on. • Get together with another pair. Combine your lists and then narrow them to 5 that you can all agree on. • You will receive another group’s list. Decide which 3 items on their list you would like to see in our Pride Pact. Write those three items on the board. (period 5 begin) • We will regroup as a class, combine lists, and then narrow it down to 5 that we can all agree on.

  16. 1. Nouns • Persons • Places • Things • Ideas (love, honesty, truth) • Proper Nouns are CAPITALIZED! Mr. Stump, Mexico, Maine, Thanksgiving • Can function as the subject in a sentence.

  17. 2. Pronouns • Take the place of nouns I, me, he, she, it, we, they, you • Can function as the subject in a sentence. Ex. She went to the store. Commands: the Implied You Ex. Take out the trash. Translation: (You) take out the trash.

  18. 3. Verbs • Action verbs – jump, kiss, swim • Linking verbs (state of being) – is, was, feel, taste • Helping verbs – was eating, can work, must walk

  19. 4. Adjectives • Describe nouns Ex. Thesmall, tiny, brown mouse ate thesugarcoateddonut crumb.

  20. 5. Adverbs • Describe: verbs adjectives other adverbs Ex. An unusually large crowd quickly gathered.

  21. 6. PREPOSITIONS • Relates a noun or pronoun to some other part of a sentence. • Always travels with a noun or pronoun. • Often provides direction or position. Ex. I gave the gift to him. Sally put the dinner on the table.

  22. 7. Conjunctions - Join words, phrases, or clauses For And Nor But Or Yet So FANBOYS

  23. 8. Interjections • A word or cry expressing sudden or strong feelings and usually lacking grammatical connection. Ex. “Oh no!”, “Yikes”, “Ouch”

  24. Blue Grammar Books After you receive your blue grammar book, you will complete Ex. 1 (only the first paragraph) and Ex. 2 (all of it) on page 90.
