  1. “…what else can we do to serve Michigan’s vets…” We Recognized a Need We Devised a Solution

  2. Recognizing A Need • Many veterans & businesses did not know enough about veterans employment services to use them efficiently. back

  3. Solution, ProjectMOVE • In July 2001, Michigan’s DLEG launched a Project to identify and recruit veterans, separating to Michigan, for employment opportunities that matched both their skills and career interests. • The Project would then seek to connect this unique talent pool of well-trained, high performance military veterans with needs of Michigan’s business community. back

  4. Solution, Veterans The Project set out to “to identify and recruit veterans separating to Michigan”. Three years later the Project has: • Created and managed a database that allows direct mailings and military skill searches. • Authored ‘Welcome Home’ letters, follow-up post cards and veteran information packets. • Contacted 18,000 newly separated veterans & referred them to the LVER & DVOW field staff. • Revitalized a national 800 veterans’ hotline offering employment and support services. • Built a veterans informational website. • Promoted hiring Veterans for their job skills. • Aligned with VSO’s and organized Job Fairs.

  5. Solution, Business The Project set out to “connect this unique talent pool of well-trained, high performance military veterans with Michigan’s business community”. In three short years the Project has: • Explored databases that allowed targeting of specific businesses. • Authored ‘Hire A Veteran’ postcards. • Promoted veteran employment, through personal contacts, military skills credentialing & targeted mail outs to Michigan businesses. • Cataloged credentialing avenues (accreditation, licensing, certification, OJT and apprenticeship programs) available to veterans, businesses and schools. • Built a webpage for business & schools. • Aligned with VSO’s and organized Job Fairs.
