  2. The pronouns lui and leur can be used as indirect objects.

  3. Look at the following sentences: Paul lance le ballonà Luc. Paul lui lance le ballon. Translation: Paul is throwing the ball to Luc. Paul is throwing him the ball. Notice that to Luc is replaced by the pronoun lui.

  4. Notice that the indirect objectis the nounthatispreceded by à.

  5. Remember the direct object is the person, place, or thing that receives the action directly from the verb. In the example, ball is the direct object. Paul lance le ballon à Luc.

  6. The indirect object receives the direct object. In the example Luc receives the ball. Luc is the indirect object.

  7. Look at the following sentences: Le médecinparle à Pierre. Le médecinluiparle. Le médecinparle à ses patients. Le médecinleurparle. Les élèvesposent les questions à leurprof. Les élèvesluiposent les questions.

  8. Notice the following: Lui is singular. Leuris plural. Lui is translated as him or her. Leur is translated as them.

  9. Lui and leur come before the verb.

  10. Rewrite the following sentences and replace the underlined words with either lui or leur.
