  3. El Dorado Gaily bedight, A gallant knight, In sunshine and in shadow, Had journeyed long, Singing a song, In search of Eldorado. But he grew old, This knight so bold, And o'er his heart a shadow Fell as he found No spot of ground That looked like Eldorado. And, as his strength Failed him at length, He met a pilgrim shadow; "Shadow," said he, "Where can it be, This land of Eldorado?“ "Over the mountains Of the moon, Down the valley of the shadow, Ride, boldly ride," The shade replied,-- "If you seek for Eldorado!" A well-dressed knight traveling to find his destination. He kept traveling, not finding what he needs to find, but Eldorado was no where to be found. He got tired on his journey, meeting a pilgrim along the way, asking where he may find this place of Eldorado. He has traveled all this way to be told he is almost to where he needs to get to. Overall meaning: This poem represents a person continuing to be happy and looking unbothered, in search for his dreams. The journey of life is long and hard, but no matter what still keep pushing on. You may get tired and feel like giving up, but you should just keep pushing on, because you could be closer than you think.

By creating a meter of A,A,B,C,C,B in every stanza (except for the last one), it makes this poem a lyrical poem. This poem does tell a story and does create rhythm. Making this words rhyme in a certain pattern, it emphasizes the words within the poem, making it more obvious that these words have meaning and are important. For example: The “A” rhymes are usually describing something, usually the knight who is traveling to Eldorado. Such as in line, 1 and 2. In line 1, Poe described the knight as being happy and proper, and in line 2, says the knight is gallant. Also in the poem there is repetition, putting emphasis on the word Eldorado, and shadow.
