  1. Guide to Applying To High School A parent and student tutorial on the application process.

  2. Begin Now The time has come for you and your parent(s) to start to think about where you would like to attend high school. All of our receiving private schools have posted all of their information on line for the admission process. It is key that you begin the process and start to visit schools of interest. The Fall is when most schools have an entrance exam and paperwork that is mandatory for the acceptance process. We would like to help you have a smooth process. We will try to give you an overview of the process and information that will help to guide you to in getting the information necessary from some of the frequent places where our students apply to. Deadlines are key to your families success in this process and waiting until the last minute to obtain necessary documentation will hinder the outcomes. We will talk to some of these deadline further on in the power point. Enjoy the excitement of this process and good luck to you all.

  3. Northwest Catholic High School – October 21st – Saint Brigid Students go as a class or November 3rd from 1:00-4:00pm –on your own. Saint Paul High School– Ethel Walker School- Westminster School – Loomis Chaffee School –Schedule a tour and parent/student interview Kingswood Oxford School- Schedule a tour and parent/student interview Watkinson – West Hartford Public High Schools – Call for a tour These are just a few of your choices to help you in your process.

Entrance Exams • Northwest Catholic High School – November 16th or December 7th – please register • Saint Paul High School- need to register • Westminster-Standardized Testing Required –must schedule well in advance of registration deadline. Call school for more info. • Ethel Walker School-SSAT required • Loomis Chaffee School SSAT required • Kingswood Oxford School –OLSAT required • Watkinson School –Call school

Paperwork Requests • Please note that it is very important to stay ahead of high school deadlines and give us at minimum of two weeks notice for recommendations, records, and application documents. • We have many students to do this process for and we need your help in making sure we have time to accomplish what is needed.

Student Brag Sheet The purpose of this form is to provide your teacher with supporting information that will assist your teacher in writing a recommendation for high school/scholarship applications. Please attach a copy of your activities resume, complete this sheet and return it to your teacher. Teachers require a minimum of two (2) weeks to write a letter. Name: ____________________________ Date: _____________________ Anticipated Major/Career Interest Area: _____________________________ What do you consider your greatest strength, both as a student and as a person? Please think about this question and illustrate with examples and experiences. What are your proudest accomplishments? Academic: Personal: Do your grades reflect your potential? Please explain. Name three things about you that a high school admission representative should know above and beyond your GPA and report card marks . What experiences have you encountered related to your present career interest? For example, volunteer work at a hospital relating to an individual’s interest in nursing. Describe any volunteer work/summer or part time jobs you may have held. Is there any outside circumstance or health issue that has interfered with your academic performance? How did you handle this setback? Please explain. If so, do we have your permission to share this? Yes / No (circle one) Do you have any additional thoughts/comments that you want to share?

Why did you select these as most important? In what areas has your student shown the most development and growth during the past three years? If you had to describe you son/daughter in three adjectives, what would they be and why? Please be specific. Are there any unusual or personal circumstances, which have affected your student's educational experiences or personal experiences?
