Established in 1976 • Built more than 225,000 homes worldwide • Housed more than 1 million people • There are more than 1500 affiliates in over 90 countries working with HFHI • Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with God and people everywhere, from all walks of life, to develop communities with people in need by building and renovating houses so that there are decent houses in decent communities in which every person can experience God’s love and can live and grow into all that God intends.

How Habitat for Humanity Works • Habitat builds and sells the house to the owner for no profit • Habitat finances the homeowner’s mortgage with a 30 year interest-free mortgage • Habitat holds a second mortgage • Protects homeowners from predatory lenders • Protects Habitat from homeowners selling for profit • Habitat has right of first refusal on the property • Income from mortgage helps to fund future homes

Path to Home Ownership • Future homeowners must: • Attend an orientation • Submit an application • Meet established criteria • Need: Low to moderate income; less than 50% of area median income • Ability to pay mortgage • Willingness to partner with Habitat • Be selected by the board • Participate in homeowner training course • Work 500 hours “sweat equity” • Provide $500 Down payment

  6. NEW CONSTRUCTION METHODS • Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) • EarthCraft certified (green building) • Universal Design (“visitable”/sustainable homes) • No steps • Wide hallway • Wide interior doors • Lever type door handles • Wheelchair clearance in bathrooms

  7. ReSale Store • Moved to New Location Dec. 2006 • Donated Trucks Available for Pickup & Delivery of Donations • Annual Sales Increase from $8,000 in FY 2004 to $61,530 in FY 2005, $90,000 to date for FY 2008 • “Buy a Bargain, Build a House”

  8. Aluminum Can Recycle • Over 120 Drop Off Sites in the area • Churches, schools, businesses • 16,262 lbs. Collected in 2007 ($6690) • $5,000 Grant Awarded in 2004 • Grant application submitted for 2007 • More Collection Sites Needed • More Volunteers Needed
