  2. What qualifications do I need? High School Teachers • AP Readers from secondary schools must currently teach the AP course in a face-to-face classroom setting and have at least three years' experience teaching it — unless: • the AP course is new — then teachers must demonstrate comparable expertise and teaching experience Supporting Documents • All applicants must submit a current resume and teaching syllabus.  The syllabus should include the instructors name and contact information.

  3. How long will I grade? • Training starts on Sunday at 8:00 a.m. • Grading started by about 11:00 a.m. for my question. • Each workday goes from 8:00 – 5:00 p.m. • There are two 15 minute breaks, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. • There is an hour lunch break. • All food is provided at the grading site.

  4. How fast do I have to grade? • You are not allowed to mark on the tests. • You can use paper to keep up with scores or count on your fingers. • The expectation is one question per minute. • However, my question leader said speed wasn't as much of a concern as accuracy. She said the people they cant work with are “random number generators.” • I graded 3499 tests over the work week.

  5. During the grading itself… • No music or other distracting sounds. • You can wear ear plugs, but not be plugged in to anything. • No open containers of liquid. • No talking. • No use of phone, no pictures.

  6. When did you get done? • The goal is to get finished by about noon on Saturday. • We were running behind so we had an extra half an hour work staring on Thursday so we could meet that deadline.

  7. Compensation • The honorarium is $1639 for the seven day work week. • All travel is provided. • All hotel and food is provided.

  8. Why should I apply to read? • Exchange ideas with faculty, teachers and AP Development Committee members • Establish friendships within a worldwide network of faculty members • Score the exam responses from AP high school students • Practice how to use a rubric consistently, which provides valuable knowledge for scoring their own students' essays • Earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and Professional Development Hours (PDHs)
