  2. Successful Science Fair Projects • A successful science fair project does not have to be expensive or even terribly time-consuming. However, it does require some planning and careful thought. • Projects become frustrating to students, parents and teachers when they are left to the last minute and thus don't have the chance to be as good as they possibly can. You can't rush good science!

  3. TMS Science Fair Important Tentative Dates: 1. Select a Problem/begin research – 11/242. Design experiment, methods, addit. Forms-12/43. Start Experiment & rough draft paper – 12/114. Continue & complete experiments – 12/185. Final Project / Results / Paper Due - 1/076. TMS Science Fair: January 14, 2009

  4. TMS Science Fair • Students must bring in photographs instead of bringing in samples of experiment or products. • All students must write an abstract about their experiment. See abstract handout.

  5. A Science Fair Project display usually asks that you include certain sections. Your particular science fair rules and guidelines may use slightly different words to describe them, but be sure you address each of them as you go through your project and then again as you write it up. 6. Science Fair Project display 1. Prepare a display board to communicate your work to others. In most cases you will use a standard, three-panel display board that unfolds to be 36" tall by 48" wide (available at TMS - $5). 2. Graphs and Charts Organize your information like a newspaper so that your audience can quickly follow the thread of your experiment by reading from top to bottom, then left to right. Include each step of your science fair project: Abstract, question, hypothesis, variables, background research, and so on.2. Perhaps you would choose to display photographs or drawings of your work3. Equipment and your research paper can be placed on the table Other helpful tips:Use a font size of at least 16 points for the text on your display board, so that it is easy to read from a few feet away. It's OK to use slightly smaller fonts for captions on picture and tables. The title should be big and easily read from across the room. Choose one that accurately describes your work, but also grabs peoples' attention.
