3. IAWP AGREEMENT • IAWP Agreement, is Agreement between: • Australian Government Department of Agriculture, and • World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE)

4. OUTCOME OF THE IAWP • Adoption and implementation of OIE standards on animal welfare during transport on land and slaughter via: • In country capacity building: - Training teams of experts/trainers through Training of Trainers (TOT) programme - Workshops for academics (and other stakeholders) to promote animal welfare in scope of OIE to undergraduates and

8. TRAINING OBJECTIVES • Understand relevant scientific and technical information; • Understand animal welfare, animal behaviour and animal handling; stockmanship, transport, restraint, stunning, slaughter with stunning and without stunning; • Carry out basic assessment of premises and identify key welfare problems • Understand basics of learning, training and relevant training techniques; • Carry out classroom training on the best practices in pre slaughter and slaughter; • Carry out practical trainings in handling cattle and sheep;

10. IDEAL COMPOSITION OF TEAM • Trainees team: • 8 - 9 trainees - regional (governmental) veterinary inspectors • 1-2 central government officials • 2 observers • out of these 1 academics (future work on undergraduate curricula) • 1 central government (legislative department)

TRAINING IN 10 WEEKS WEEK 1 ( 4 days) Visits to slaughterhouses - 2 times ½ Day Theoretical training - Technical information – 2 - 3 days Practical session – visit to feedlot , handling techniques - ½ Day 4 WEEKS Distance learning WEEK 2 Learning and Training , - Introduction – ½ Day Development of Training materials - 2 x 1,5 Day Delivering of training (recorded on video)andanalysis of performance Visit to feedlot – practical training handling cattle – ½ Day 2-3 WEEKS Development of training materials for workshop for vet academics 2 days Seminar on animal welfare in pre slaughter and slaughter Aimed at : academics community + governmental officials+other stakeholders such as religious slaughter regulators and certifiers
