  6. Discharge rates

  7. Technical information on Greasomatic installation • Before the Greasomatic is installed ensure that the bearings or chains are pre-lubricated. • Selection of the discharge rate should be established from the following: check the ambient air temperature where the Greasomatic is to be installed and establish the frequency of the previous lubrication method. • Ambient air temperature will have an affect on the discharge rate, for example at 10ºC the Greasomatic will discharge it’s contents at a slower rate than if it were in an ambient air temperature of 20ºC. This means that when the Greasomatic is set on a 3 month discharge rate it will actually last for approximately 6 months. • The volume of grease required daily will also be affected by the ambient air temperature. For example the Greasomatic working at an ambient air temperature of 20ºC and set on a 3 month duration will discharge 1.3ml of lubricant per day after pressurisation. However if the ambient air temperature is 10ºC the discharge of the lubricant is reduced to approximately 0.7ml per day. • At higher temperatures, such as 30ºC, a setting of 3 months will give a life span of approximately 6 weeks and a lubricant discharge of 2.7ml per day. In other words, the life span of the Greasomatic will be halved and the grease flow will be doubled.

  8. Ambient air temperatures also have an affect on how quickly the Greasomatic will pressurise and then start to inject the lubricant into or onto the application. • A formula to assess the start-up time is as follows: At 20ºC allow 1 day for each month of the chosen duration setting. At 10ºC allow two days for each month of the chosen duration setting. For example, a Greasomatic set on 3 months duration at 10ºC will take approximately 6 days to pressurise and inject lubricant into the application. • When the Greasomatic is fitted to bearing housings, it should be noted that bearings have individual characteristics even though they may all be of the same size and serial number. The resistance in each bearing will affect the time taken for the Greasomatic to discharge it’s contents into the application. For example, if the resistance in the bearing is 1.5 bar, then the Greasomatic will have to achieve a minimum of 2.6 bar before the lubricant effectively comes into service. • To achieve this pressure at 10ºC would take approximately 5 days if the Greasomatic is set on a 1 month duration. Therefore, should the resistance in other bearings be higher than 1.6 bar, the time taken to pressurise and overcome the resistance will be somewhat longer. • The time delay will not have any adverse effect on the bearing due to the application having been pre-lubricated with a high quality lubricant. This will protect the bearings during the start-up period of the Greasomatic.

  9. Activation pad & Dial setting Activating a Greasomatic After the discharge duration has been set the red locking button is depressed to secure the setting and disconnect the control knob from the dial. Five further clockwise rotations of the control knob then cause the element to be injected into the electrolyte to start the GREASOMATIC working.

  10. Discharge level indicator Translucent window Monitoring the Lubricant Discharge Level Throughout the working life of a GREASOMATIC an indicating ring on the ejection piston shows through translucent windows in the body to enable its lubricant level to be monitored

  11. ¼” BSP male thread How a GREASOMATIC is Installed The lubricant outlet in the base of a GREASOMATIC has a ¼” BSP male thread enable it be screwed by hand to fit tightly into a standard grease nipple socket. Adaptors are available to enable a GREASOMATIC to be fitted into sockets of other sizes. With the aid of extension tubes it can easily be installed at a distance from the lubrication point. This is particularly useful when it is desired to group a number of GREASOMATICs together on a panel for ease of access or when it is necessary to isolate them from extremes of temperature or from excessive vibration. Other accessories enable two or more units to be coupled together in order to increase the supply of lubricant to a bearing. A GREASOMATIC will work in any position and need not be mounted upright - it can be mounted on its side or upside down. It can be fitted to rotating or moving machine parts providing the movement is not violent enough to cause the plastic base to break and will work indoors or out of doors. A GREASOMATIC will even work under water or encased in ice.

  12. The Pressure Relief Valve In the event of a complete blockage of the lubricant channels, the GRASOMATIC’s internal pressure will build up to about 6 bars at which level pressure relief valve will operate as a safety measure and release lubricant from the base. This prevents over-pressurization and serves as a warning that no lubrication is taking place. Pressure Relief Valve
