  3. What is the IT Academy? • An Enterprise Business Unit within the School of Computing. • Specialising in the Delivery of Industry Recognised IT Certifications

  4. Academic Certification Partners • IBM • Microsoft • Cisco • Oracle • SAP • CIW • CompTIA • Certiport • Adobe

  5. Delivery Formats • Day-time: Including Day-release Options, Off-&-On Site. • Evenings: For the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Market. • Supported Distance Learning: For Those That Cannot Come to a Campus on a Regular Basis.

  6. Certification Tailored to Job-Roles • System Administrators • Desktop Support Technicians • Network Analysts / Engineers • Database Programmers / Analysts • Web Developers

Sample Price Comparison • Microsoft: Maintaining a SQL Server 2008 Database (5 days) • £500 UWS Price Inclusive of VAT, Course Material and Certification Exam • Current Commercial Training Provider Price (Scotland) is £1665 Ex VAT and no Exam Included • Cisco Certified Networking Course (5 days) • £500 UWS Price Inclusive of VAT, Course Material and Certification Exam • Current Commercial Training Provider Price (Scotland) is £1520 Ex VAT and no Exam Included

IBM & UWS • Academic collaboration with UWS. • Student access to IBM software and technology training, especially in • Business Analytics • Business Modelling • as these are increasingly sought by employers. • IBM have provided some courses to bring selected staff up to speed in Cognos and System/Z. • They have enhanced the Academic Initiative site to provide updated WebSphere materials.

IBM & UWS • As a first step, we are including • Cognos materials in Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence and other database modules • WebSphere materials in Enterprise Systems Development (BPM, ID, Business Monitoring) • In both cases students will gain hands-on experience with the software.

  10. IBM & UWS • We have also added 6 modules to our portfolio, based on IBM certification courses, e.g. System Z, AIX. • Depending on demand these will be offered, using outside staff at first. • These can be used to gain credit within our degree programmes, or as stand-alone CPD provision.

  12. IBM & UWS • Graduates are able to compare and choose technologies meeting a business need • Understand the processes of software evolution and enhancement • Know how to conduct inquiries as a basis for business decision making.
