  2. I. The Jungle • Written by Upton Sinclair in 1906. • Meant to show Americans how immigrants were treated in Chicago meat packing factories. • People will be outraged over the food.

  3. II. Reform • The Meat Inspection Act.(1906) • Sets up system of random food inspection. • Pure Food and Drug Act.(1906) • Sets up FDA, Food and Drug Administration.

  4. Requires all food to be properly labeled. • Bans the sale of harmful food and medicine.

  5. I aimed for America’s heart and I hit them in the stomach --U. Sinclair
