  1. Music Video Analysis Paige Ferrier

  2. Fun – Some Nights http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSa66gQJyOY Style and Genre • The style of the video is narrative and performance. The narrative focus’ on tow men before they go to war, during and then the outcome, death. • The performance side, he is singing to the audience in the video(the men at war) and also the actual audience, us. • The genre of the video is indie pop.

  3. Integration of the lyrics and the video • Within the actual song he is talking about a woman, possibly they had been in love and now they are apart. • Put together with the music video, some of the lyrics represent what is happening. Such as: “This is it, boys, this is war - what are we waiting for?” In the video he is saying this to the men at war, but it could also mean men in general, with love. • I think the video is really appropriate with the lyrics and they fit together, having a few connotations.

  4. Editing Techniques • Dim lighting, only on faces, shows unhappiness and fear. The lighting is also different from the before war shots and flash back memories, these are bright and pale, to show happiness and innocence. • Colouring, lots of dark greens and browns, again that represent the mood of those at war, but also war in general, such as the mud and greenery that they have to endure. • They use lots of jump cuts between shots to portray action and that it chaotic in war. • Some shots are slowed down, this contrast with the upbeat tune of the song.

  5. Camera Work • Close ups to show emotion before and during the war. • Panning shots around the main vocalist to show importance to the men at war and to focus on him. • A lot of hand held shots again to show the action and involve the audience. • Many mid shots • Wide shots to show all the action • Shots from behind the singer whilst talking, to show who he's talking to and that he's important.

  6. Overall effectiveness to link with genre • I think the video linked with the lyrics and genre is very effective! Its eye catching and intriguing as you wouldn't really picture the upbeat songs with the war action.
