South Pacific Disaster Shelter Project • The Primary focus is Discipleship to the churches and people of the South Pacific • The Secondary focus is Discipleship of the people working with MurSea Missions, Inc. • The Tertiary focus is service to the people of the South Pacific by building multi-purpose disaster shelters, schools, libraries, medical clinics and churches

South Pacific Disaster Shelter Project • The project will require employees, volunteers – both indigenous and foreign • The duration can be from two weeks to 5 years for volunteers and 6 months to 5 years for employees • Discipleship will be a responsibility of all employees and some volunteers • Theatre of operations include Fiji, Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands

South Pacific Disaster Shelter Project • The Project • building multi-purpose disaster shelters which are used as schools, libraries, medical clinics and churches • During the construction we will train the churches in discipleship • Disciple the village with Biblical storytelling • Mentor locals in trades and skills associated with disaster preparedness, emergency medicine, school and library aide

South Pacific Disaster Shelter Project • The structures built would be roughly 25’ x 75’ • The foundation would be concrete pilings and steel floor joists located above the flood plain and back from the shore above typical tsunami levels • The structures will be erected using pre-insulated steel panels / stucco & plaster • Solar panels would provide for minimal electrical needs with the possible addition of wind power • A source of clean drinking water would be provided by an air-to-water source • Where possible internet communications would be installed for phone & web access

South Pacific Disaster Shelter Project • Each facility would also house a storage room filled with disaster supplies and be designed with open space to allow for emergency shelter • Gas powered reverse osmosis water system • Cots / comfort kits / first aid supplies • Each facility would be furnished and outfitted for it’s primary use – school, library, clinic or church

South Pacific Disaster Shelter Project • The proposal has been submitted and we expect to hear by January • The project focuses on Fiji, Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands • Fiji would have 4 building teams, Vanuatu would have 3 and the Solomon Islands would have 5. • The project lasts for 5 years from the start date.

South Pacific Disaster Shelter Project Program Manager – Jack Lawlor • Oversight for entire project in the theatre of operations • Liaison with the national, local and/or tribal government • Leads the planning team • Responsible for the selection and acquisition of guest houses, plant facilities, and collaborates with coordinators on major purchases in their area of responsibilities. • Coordinates training of native volunteers in facility specific duties (i.e. library assistant, teacher’s aid, emergency medical technician, etc.)

South Pacific Disaster Shelter Project Disaster Coordinator – Brenda Lawlor • Coordinates selection, acquisition, placement and training for use of all disaster equipment in the theatre of operation. • Collaborates with the planning team on facility design and placement of the facility with respect to potential of natural disasters. • Collaborates with volunteer coordinator for volunteer needs and flow during installation. • Coordinates training of all native volunteers in disaster preparedness and response. • Collaborates with Inventory control for timing of delivery of necessary equipment

South Pacific Disaster Shelter Project Construction Coordinator – Open • Coordinates construction efforts over the construction teams in the theatre of operation. • Collaborates with the planning team on facility design and placement with respect to construction requirements. • Collaborates with the volunteer coordinator for volunteer needs and flow. • Collaborates with Inventory control for timing of delivery of necessary equipment and supplies • Selects construction equipment & tools necessary for the project

South Pacific Disaster Shelter Project Construction Coordinator (cont.) – • Become familiar with all necessary construction techniques and technical equipment utilized in the construction of the facilities • Selects and manages construction crews training them in the necessary construction techniques and installation of technical equipment • Hires local labor to be training in the construction trades • Response to sites where construction difficulties have arisen

South Pacific Disaster Shelter Project Volunteer Coordinator – Open • Collaborates with other coordinators in the theatre of operation to assess volunteer needs with respect to schedule, skills, numbers and vessels. • Develops a system to allow for application, screening and training of volunteers • Promote the need for volunteers and vessels globally • Collaborates with other coordinators on the movement of volunteers and vessels in and out of the theatre of operation • Assists volunteers in acquiring necessary travel documents and planning

South Pacific Disaster Shelter Project Inventory Control – Open • Collaborates with other coordinators in the theatre of operation to assess supply needs with respect to schedule, quantity and transportation. • Responsible for researching availability, pricing and delivery of necessary supplies • Responsible for acquisition of and transportation of those supplies to needed locations • Responsible for warehouse management

South Pacific Disaster Shelter Project Maritime Coordinator – Loren Murphy • Collaborates with other coordinators in the theatre of operation to assess the maritime needs of the project • Assessment of volunteers and their vessels (safety ready) • Assure all vessels and workers are trained in maritime safety • Transportation of work crews and their supplies • Support of work crews as work camps, food sources, water sources

  44. South Pacific Disaster Shelter Project Maritime Coordinator (cont) – • Evaluates meteorological and oceanographic conditions for the safety of operations in the theatre of operation • Makes recommendations about acquisition of vessels to the planning team

South Pacific Disaster Shelter Project Public Relations – Open • Promote the efforts of MurSea Missions Inc to the people of the villages prior to arrival of the teams • Promote the efforts and train the methods of discipleship to the local churches • Promote the efforts of MurSea Missions to college campuses, mission organizations and churches across the globe
