Widening access to higher education is an important element of national and EU higher education strategy • Ireland • Achieving full equality of access to higher education is a national priority of the National Access Office • for people with disability • mature students • those facing socio or economic barriers • minority groups including Travellers

EU Europe needs to attract a broader cross-section of society into higher education European Commission Memorandum 20 September 2011 In 2009/10 257 students and 5 teachers benefited from an additional grant to meet their needs There may be other “entitled” students who do not present for support. Challenge to balance inclusivity with confidentiality.
