Background information • South Africa chosen to host the 2010 FIFA World Cup • South African Government signed contracts and provided guarantees to ensure that the event would be successfully executed • The government requested Telkom to ensure that the bandwidth that was required will be available for FIFA 2010 ICT requirements • Contract signed between DoC and Telkom to provide the infrastructure at the stadiums

4. The FIFA combined IT&T communications requirements • The communications requirement at the IBC and earmarked Stadiums for the FIFA 2010 World Cup matches can be broken up into (2) two groups: • Basic telecommunications infrastructure (WAN), and • Venue distribution and access systems (LAN). • Strict rules apply to how the services should be provided, e.g. • 99.99% availability • End-to-end service and performance management • Dual homing • Communications requirement at an Earmarked stadium and the IBC only differ in scale

Conformance testing and interoperability (C&I) challenges • Statement of Compliance(SOC) with standards • Always fully comply on a standalone equipment basis • Multi-vendor environment • Interoperability takes time and effort and becomes costly and delays the end-to-end services and performance testing procedures

Universal services provisioning infrastructure Provisioning for the required video feeds are made by the dedicated NG-SDH and WDM infrastructure Any other basic communications service requirement, from Analogue telephony to High speed wireless LAN connectivity, is provided for by Telkom’s IP based NGN network. Conformance testing and interoperability (C&I) challenges • Interoperability challenges between IMAX (Multi-Service Access Node) and the Softswitch in a multi-domain environment • Network operator is expected to resolve the interoperability and systems integration issues/problems • A global C&I program which is acceptable to the entire ICT industry is required
