History • Phil McGraw created Peteski Productions and launched his own syndicated daily television show, Dr. Phil, produced by Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Studio’s. • This is an advice show, where he tackles a different topic on each show. • Dr. Phil’s success stems from his “get real” approach to helping his guests solve their problems, stripping through their emotional clutter, getting down to the bare bones of their issues and giving them the challenge they need to move ahead.

  3. Airs on… • It airs on WBZ channel 4 Monday to Friday at 3pm • It airs on WSBK channel 38 Monday to Friday at 8pm

Reviews • This show launched in September 16, 2002, and now is in it’s 6th season. • In 2002, it gathered the highest ratings of a syndicated show since Oprah 16 years ago • It is the second highest rated talk show in the nation, but in 2007 ratings began to slide viewership was close to 7 million • The show has been renewed August 2005, and will run until 2013, making it it’s 11th season

  5. Target • Their target market is women, ages 20 – mid 50’s • The issues that they discuss on the show portray to these women because the topics deal with things that they face, divorce, abuse, marriage, prostitution, money issues, parenting, and relationships.

  6. Influence • When this show started, it was sweeping into households, and everyone wanted to know what Dr. Phil thought • Now people do not always listen to what he says, and usually think that it is a load of crap, but there are still people who do follow the show • The show still has a big impact on the viewers who still watch, because the episodes are interesting and factual at times

  8. Thesis • Dr. Phil uses his expertise to find the truth of issues facing people in America, he uses his knowledge to help, but the things he say are not always accurate, and has led to bad publicity.

  9. Facts • “It's a sad fact that, these days, many a high-profile "personality" is going to have at least one good lawsuit lobbed his or her way, but Dr. Phil seems to repeatedly provoke lawsuits.” – Atkinson, journalist
