  4. Overlapping contexts • Context of the wider community: the wider context within which schools and home environments work. Factors may be found at local, regional and national levels

Principles of NCS design and development • Timeframe – comprise two stages • Format - involve a common structure of closed and open format questions • Technology - be filled in and collected on-line • Expertise - be completed by NRCs drawing on further sources and expertise as required • Language and consistency - be completed in English • Supporting data and information - draw upon existing sources of information where they are available and helpful • Resources- be manageable for available resource

  6. Current Progress • Stage 1 data received from all 38 countries analysed and reviewed • ICCS Encyclopaedia to be produced • Issues for clarification drawn up for countries (where applicable) • Stage 2 update by Sept 09 – to be completed • Draft Chapter 2 outline and draft tables produced

  7. Chap 2 – Contexts for CCE • Context of the wider community: the wider context within which schools and home environments work. Factors may be found at local, regional and national levels Will report particularly on the national context for year of the study (2008-09)

  8. Chap 2 – Data Sources • National context survey (NCS) data on the context of the education system: completed by NRCs • Data from other official sources: official statistics providing complementary context data re education system, political system and economic and social context
