Learning to track your own credits, GPA, graduation requirements, and educational opportunities Having good attendance* Having a study schedule/manage time wisely Getting involved in school activities (sports, clubs, etc.) and START PLANNING FOR YOUR FUTURE……. MAKE THE MOST OF HIGH SCHOOL

  6. Also needed for graduation Class of 2015 • Must pass 10th Grade FCAT 2.0 Reading ( Need score of 245 or higher) • Must pass Algebra 1 EOC (with 399 or higher) • Must pass Geometry EOC (counts 30% of final grade) • Must pass Biology EOC (counts 30% of final grade)

  9. here are some of the EDUCATIONAL Opportunities available while in high school: • Advanced Placement (AP) Benefits: • Earn College Credit by passing the AP exam • Colleges love it! • Dual Enrollment (LSCC) • Earn college credit while in high school • 3.0 GPA required • P.E.R.T, ACT, or SAT must have qualifying scores SEE ME FOR MORE INFO Lake Technical for vocational training Programs available: Welding Automobile --Service & Repair Cosmetology Fire, Police, Corrections Accounting, Digital Design Culinary Arts, Hospitality EMT, CAN, Home Health Aid Requirements: 2.0 GPA, pass FCAT, take a TABE test / be on track for graduation.

  10. a word about TAKING CLASSES ON FLVS • The WEBSITE is : • www.flvs.net Take courses online for: • Meeting graduation requirement • Grade forgiveness for failed class • Enrichment/fun DIRECTIONS: • Select the course • Fill out a “Course Request Form” • Submit the form to your guidance counselor for approval. • Wait for notification from the FLVS teacher and • Begin the class online….

  11. BRIGHT FUTURES SCHOLARSHIPS • OTHER SCHOLARSHIPS • FINANCIAL AIDE APPLY DURING THE SENIOR YEAR OF High School. You will be meeting with your counselor for more information. There is Money available to PAY FOR EDUCATION AFTER HIGH SCHOOL

Florida Academic Scholar • 3.5 weighted based on 16 Core Courses • 100 hours community service College Entrance Test Scores SAT 1290 ACT 29 • Florida Medallion Scholar • Florida Medallion Scholar • 3.0 weighted based on 16 core courses • 75 hours community service • Test Scores • SAT 1050 • ACT 23 3 Bright Futures scholarships(sign up during 12th grade year)

  13. A 3.0 GPA weighted GPA in the 16 core credits • 30 hours of community service • Qualifying scores on PERT SAT or ACT • 3 career and technical education credits in one vocational program with a 3.5 GPA in those courses. FLORIDA GOLD SEAL

  14. VOLUNTEER HOURS • 100 hours for FAS • 75 hours for Medallion • 30 for Gold Seal VPS forms are available in our school website under Guidance page. Get approval from your counselor And START WORKING ON YOUR HOURS NOW! HOURS EARNED IN GRADES 9TH -12TH QUALIFY *Registration for Bright Futures starts December 1st of senior year. VOLUNTEER HOURS (vps)

  15. Four (4) unexcused absences will result in a 59 (F) failing grades for the semester. (9 weeks) • The student would earn a 59 in the class, but would still be able to take exams at full credit. Tardies: 3 tardies = 1 unexcused absence Attendance policy

  16. All missed work is due within 5 days after returning to school (see print-out for exceptions) • BRING NOTES TO ATTENDANCE OFFICE UPON YOUR RETURN TO SCHOOL Make-up work
