Global burden of disease • The major culprits(cardiovascular disease, cancers, Infectious diseases) • Changing pattern of disease, shift towards non communicable diseases in both developed and developing countries • Infectious diseases still remain a big problem. AIDS, Malaria, Dengue) • Endemic/Epidemics/Pandemics, EBOLA,SARS

  5. QALY and DALYS • Attempts to give objective quantification of disease burden. • Quality adjusted life year, disability adjusted life year.

  6. Social /Behavior • Smoking, unsafe sex continue to be leading cause of diseases • Good nutrition and exercise can reduce the global burden of obesity significantly. • Obesity is a leading cause of diseases such as type 2 diabetes.
