  2. To Italicize or Not to Italicize • Nothing in the Hebrew text or grammar should be italicized: `hK'Y<)a; Alß rm,aYOðw: and He said to him, “Where are you?” • Is “He” italicized? • No. Why not? • It is in the grammar: Qal impf 3ms • Likewise, “are” is NOT italicized.

To Italicize or Not to Italicize ATªv.aiw> ~d"øa'h'( aBe’x;t.YIw: ~AY=h; x:Wrål. `!G")h; #[eî %AtßB. … at the wind of the day, so the man and his wife hid themselves . . . among the trees of the garden • Is “the” (1st) italicized? • Is “of” italicized? • Is “themselves” italicized? • Is “the trees of” italicized?

  4. To Italicize or Not to Italicize ~he_ ~MiÞrUy[e( yKiî W[êd.YEåw: so they knew that they were naked • Is “were” italicized? • No. Why not? • The copula (“were”) is part of the grammar of the noun clause. • “So they knew that they naked” is INACCURATE, as well as being atrocious English!
