  10. Standards Division Documents • Primary TLC work to be completed during the Spring Semester of 2012. • Primary discussion points and work sessions in content break out sessions today.

  11. Benchmarking and MSL’s • 2012-2013 Benchmarks in Summative Testable Areas • Grades 5 and 8 Science • Biology • 2012-2013 Assessments: Based on Common Core/Essential Standards; developed in NC; this is a 2-year plan.

  12. Measures of Student Learning • Measures of Student Learning (MSLs), sometimes called “common exams,” are a shared way to gauge student growth in all currently non-tested grades and subjects in the Common Core State Standards for Math and ELA and in the NC Essential Standards. While these measures will be used statewide, they are not the same as our statewide summative assessments in the NC Testing Program: the End-of-Grade and End-of-Course assessments. Districts and charter schools will have flexibility to decide how to use the MSLs as part of students’ grades. • NC will implement the MSLs statewide during the 2012-13 school year.

  13. Benchmarking and MSL’s • Measure of Student Learning (MSL’s) • To be utilized in the state of North Carolina in all currently non-tested areas. • Teacher Effectiveness Mandate • Standard 6 • Linked to the State’s Instructional Improvement System (IIS) • More information forthcoming

  14. Science K-5 Initiatives • Curriculum Division Documents for each Grade (to includeLiteracy Strands for Science) • Visual Document for Essential Standards • Curriculum Trajectory Diagram for Science K-8 • Develop the Science-Unpacked Wiki as a resource.
