  2. Group 1 • This group should discuss the principles which underpin British citizenship? • Has new security legislation changed the relationship between the individual and the state? • To what extent has devolution had a impact on identity and citizenship in the UK?

  3. Group 2 • This group should compare French and German concepts of citizenship with the British model. • What are the implications for political culture, identity and integration arising from these different approaches?

  4. Group 3 • This group should examine the issue of multi-layered identity and citizenship • Is British identity better understood in terms of multiple identities e.g. Black British; Scottish & British rather than simply ‘British’? • Do you feel European?

  5. Group 4 • This group should consider whether we are now all global citizens: • Has the development of new technologies and supranational economic and political organisations delivered a post-national citizenship? • Is cosmopolitanism a better concept for understanding modern citizenship?
