  1. ITU-T Study Group 15 Update to IETF CCAMP Wesam Alanqar (Wesam.Alanqar@mail.sprint.com) ITU-T SG15 representative to IETF CCAMP and IPO

  2. Three Liaisons to IETF from ITU-T Study Group 15 • ASON Routing Activities in Q14/15 • To CCAMP WG & Sub-IP Area Directors • CC to OSPF WG, ISIS WG, & Routing Area Directors • Input on SDH and OTN Discovery Mechanisms • To CCAMP WG & Sub-IP Area Directors • ASON Status and GMPLS Protocol Support for Restoration/Re-routing Capabilities • To CCAMP WG & Sub-IP Area Directors

  3. Location of Relevant Information • ASON routing: http://www.ietf.org/IESG/LIAISON/ls15-39-1.htm • Discovery: http://www.ietf.org/IESG/LIAISON/ls15-38.htm • Protection & re-routing: http://www.ietf.org/IESG/LIAISON/ls15-36.htm • http://www.ietf.org/IESG/liaison.html • ftp://sg15opticalt:otxchange@ftp.itu.int/tsg15opticaltransport/COMMUNICATIONS/index.html

  4. Routing Requirement and Protocol Work in ITU-T Study Group 15 • Q.14/15 is beginning to define connection routing protocols for use in ASON networks. • Architecture and requirements for the Automatically switched transport network (ASON) have been specified in G.8080 (11/2001). • A set of protocol-independent high level routing architecture and requirements has been specified in G.7715 (6/2002). • ASON architecture in G.8080 has been further progressed (3/15/2003). • It clarifies naming and structure of the network for routing and signaling. It also adds architectural support for discovery procedures and protection/restoration

  5. Routing Requirement and Protocol Work in ITU-T Study Group 15 – cont’d • Q14/15 has initiated work on a new draft Recommendation (G.7715.1). • It describes the requirements for a link-state method routing protocol for ASON. • Its scope is limited to routing of transport connections within ASON networks, and encompasses inter routing control domain applications • A template document has been created to facilitate comparison of candidate routing protocols against G.8080, G.7715, and G.7715.1.

  6. Routing Requirement and Protocol Work in ITU-T Study Group 15 – cont’d • Q14/15 plan to specify link-state based protocol-specific recommendation(s) for ASON Routing. • Both OSPF- and ISIS-based routing protocols are under consideration in Q14/15. • Extension to the protocol(s) may be needed to support ASON routing requirements and architecture per G.8080, G.7715, and G.7715.1.

  7. Request to the IETF routing experts • Invite comments and input to progress the ASON routing work • Invite participation in the 9-13 June 2003 Q14/15 Rapporteur meeting (Chicago) • Contact: H. Kam Lam (hklam@lucent.com) by May 27, 2003 • Contribution deadline: June 2, 2003

  8. SDH & OTN Discovery Mechanism Work in ITU-T Study Group 15 • Q.14/15 has consented G.7714.1, “Protocol for Automatic Discovery in SDH and OTN Networks” • G.7714.1 includes specification on SDH Jx trace bytes message for Discovery. • SG15 would like IEFT to consider the format proposed in G.7714.1. • Invite IETF to define, if necessary, an additional format for GMPLS to use the SDH and OTN layer adjacency discovery process.

  9. SDH & OTN Discovery Mechanism Work in ITU-T Study Group 15 – cont’d • The information elements for the out-of-band discovery response message associated with the in-band discovery message are defined in G.7714.1. • The control plane protocol specific format for the out-of-band response message is outside of the scope of G.7714.1. • Invite IETF to propose the message format suitable to exchange these information elements. • The exchange of the out-of-band message does not prevent any other prior GMPLS message exchange.

  10. ASON Status and GMPLS Protocol Support for Restoration/Re-routing Capabilities • SG 15 has consented the ASON signalling protocol Recommendations: • G.7713.1, based on the ATM PNNI signalling protocol • G.7713.2, based on the GMPLS RSVP-TE signalling protocol • G.7713.3, based on the GMPLS CR-LDP signalling protocol • Q.14/15 would like to thank the IETF for its help to obtain the necessary assignment of codepoints for the GMPLS-based Recommendations.

  11. ASON Status and GMPLS Protocol Support for Restoration/Re-routing Capabilities • We have identified restoration/re-routing capabilities as a future work item. • We are aware of the IETF protection and restoration Design Team activities. • We look forward to co-operating with you in this area to progress this work.
