  3. Bamidbar (In the Wilderness) “The Firstborn Redeemed” Bamidbar/Numbers 1:1 – 4:20

  4. Numbers 3:40 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Number every firstborn male of the sons of Israel from a month old and upward, and make a list of their names.

  5. Numbers 3:41 You shall take the Levites for Me, I am the LORD, instead of all the firstborn among the sons of Israel, and the cattle of the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the cattle of the sons of Israel.

  6. Moses Obeys God • So Moses countsthe firstborn boys. • There were 22,273 men and boys. • Tribe of Levi to work in the Mishkan. • Then God ordered a payment of silver for the firstborn sons.

  7. Payment for the Firstborn • God required a payment of five shekels of silver for each firstborn male. • A special Jewish ceremony called “Pidyon Haben” • In English this means the redemption of the firstborn son.

  8. Yeshua and the Pidyon HaBen Ceremony • Luke 2:22-24 • And when the days for their purification according to the law of Moses were completed, they brought Him up to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, EVERY firstborn MALE THAT OPENS THE WOMB SHALL BE CALLED HOLY TO THE LORD), and to offer a sacrifice according to what was said in the Law of the Lord, A PAIR OF TURTLEDOVES OR TWO YOUNG PIGEONS.

  9. Why is the Firstborn Important? • Numbers 3:13 • "For all the firstborn are Mine; on the day that I struck down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, I sanctified to Myself all the firstborn in Israel, from man to beast. They shall be Mine; I am the LORD."

  10. Lesson #1 – The LORD wants to be first in our lives • Yeshua beingLORD of your life means that He is the “Boss” of your life. • When Yeshua is LORD or boss of our lives we need to do and act in the way He wants us to.

  11. Lesson #2 – The LORD wants the best we can give and do • God wants us to have a good attitude and listen to our parents. • When you do your chores or clean your room please do the best possible job.
