Microalbuminuria (MA): • Appearance of small but abnormal amounts of albumin in the urine. • (protein excretion between 30 and 300 mg during a 24 hour period) • Development of microalbuminuria closely linked • to long term blood sugar control. • This risk is increased by : • duration of diabetes • high blood pressure • genetic susceptibility MA is a risk factor for Renal and Cardiovascular disease
